Oakland County Moms highlights special events from the Metroparks calendar to bring you the latest news and info on special events happening at the 13 Metro Detroit area Huron-Clinton Metroparks. Call to confirm costs when pre-registering for events.

Take a journey to the sugar bush on a guided maple syrup tour. You will travel back in time and experience how maple syrup has been made over the years. You may also get a chance to tap a tree. March brings warm days and freezing nights, just what is needed to encourage sap flow in maple trees. Join to explore the history of maple sugaring. Learn how to identify and tap a maple tree, and then see how we boil the sap down to syrup. Enjoy delicious French toast sticks dipped in real maple syrup as the program concludes. Come see the methods used to collect maple sap and hear the many ways the maple tree helped sustain early Americans. Other programs have you making your own syrup! Call for details. Kensington Metroparks Events – Maple’s Sweet Story

Take a guided walk through the farm’s sugar bush. Learn how to pick the right tree, then watch how maple trees are tapped and sap is collected. Stop by the French and Native camps to hear and see how these techniques have changed through the years. Be sure to visit the sugar shack to see and smell the sap being boiled down into maple sugar. Taste a sample of maple syrup at the end of the tour. Maple sugar products will be available for purchase. The Farmhouse Grille will have pancakes available to purchase as well. Tours begin every half hour, last approximately one hour and are entirely outdoors. Dress for the weather. A Metroparks vehicle entry permit is required to enter any Metropark. Cost is $5 adult, $3 child.
